The most famous anthem tunes are "La Marseillaise", "God Save the Queen (King) / My Country, tis of Thee", "Deutschland Uber Alles" and "The Star Spangled Banner"
I prefer the words of "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken" to the tune used for "Deutschland". The words of "La Marseillaise" are very bloody and vengeful, but it is the most stirring tune of the four. "Banner" was written during the War of 1812. It is probably the most famous because American influence is everywhere, but "America the Beautiful" should have been chosen. It is livelier and timeless.
"God Save the Queen" by default is the best because I do pray that God saves the Queen. She is my head of state and has been a fine one: wise, savvy, able to say it all with a look alone and she has a lovely smile. Charles won't come close. William might, but he'll be a picture-book king. Not his fault, but kings don't mean much now. He deserves a better job. When the Queen dies, we will really miss all she was.
