I believe common sense tells us it's used to wake people up so that they may get to work or keep other appointments on time.

Some of us have these things called jobs and we have to be there at a certain time each day, an alarm clock is used to ensure we wake up in time to get to work without being late. I know it's an odd concept for you but some of us work to pay our bills.

In my younger days I needed the alarm clock because my partying late interfered w/ getting up in a timely fashion to be on time for work. I don't need one now ... I just time my urination urges accordingly.
