What Kristy said: art students should express themselves in all aspects of their lives including how they dress and present themselves to the public. You are young and the perfect age for skirts of all lengths and for looking your best no matter what the occasion, so don't let any old poopy-heads tell you they aren't appropriate. (a little perspective, I am well over 50 and the age when I should be a poopyhead, but I am not) I went to a school that had technical, business and art programs and you could always tell the art students by their clothes. For the fashion design students they were some of the best and most expressively dressed in the school. As for the teachers, they actually dislike the slacker-look and many really hate when kids come to class in pajama pants. dressing well shows you are taking your studies seriously, dressing like a slob shows a lack of interest. Doesn't matter what a student actually feels - if they dress like a slacker they are seen as a slacker.
