There actually is a lot of Italian (Mediterranean) and Middle Eastern (Mediterranean) and even North African (Mediterranean) cuisine that is very similar, and I LOVE Mediterranean food. Lots of very similar dishes even though they have different names (such as tzatziki vs. cacik).
If I had to pick between Italian and Middle Eastern, I'd probably have to choose Middle Eastern. That being said, I'd definitely miss some of the things available in Italy that might not be widely enjoyed in some Middle Eastern countries...pork, beer, some kinds of seafood, etc.
ETA: Not sure where you got the idea that dolma are primarily Middle Eastern. Tikka is Punjabi. Just sayin'...
Pasta is nothing unique to Italy. Pasta is served all over the near and far east...everything from cous cous to chow mein. And there is nothing particularly Italian/unique about baking cheese, meat and vegetables on wheat dough.
