Oh yes. You must be too young to remember the Clinton years. During Bill Clinton's very energetic effort to take him down. This is what Hillary Clinton referred to as the vast right-wing conspiracy, a term which got a lot of ridicule on the right but which was essentially accurate. There was a conspiracy, if you want to use that term, mom right-wingers to destroy Clinton's presidency. It began even before he was elected with powerful Republicans seeking to dig up dirt about him. This is what eventually led to his impeachment. In 1994, a powerful Republican donor, who interesting Lee committed suicide in 2016 after talking with Russian agents about Hillary Clinton's emails, heard that some Arkansas state troopers were claiming that Clinton had used them to arrange sexual Liaisons for him. This donor got journalist David Brock to write a column about their story. Paula Jones recognized herself as one of the anonymous women mentioned in the piece and decided to come forward. It was her sexual harassment lawsuit which led to Clinton's false testimony about Monica Lewinsky and his impeachment.
There was a whole industry in the 1990s dedicated to muckraking and character assassination of the Clinton's. These guys did everything they could to try and bring him down, from legitimate stories like Troopergate, to complete fantasies like the idea that the Clintons were behind the suicide of their friend Vince Foster. The partisan attempts to bring him down, which unlike with Trump were not based on evidence of actual misconduct, were so numerous and well financed that they spawned a documentary called "the Hunting of the President". Compared to that, Trump has no cause for complaint. Robert Muller has been tight lipped and laser focused compared to Ken Starr, the prosecutor who was originally appointed to look into financial wrongdoing in Whitewater and then kept expanding his investigation into new territory when he couldn't find incriminating info on the Clinton's. Starr saw his job not as investigating wrongdoing but as bringing down Clinton and he regularly leaked information to the press to damage Clinton's presidency.
