    I believe the cubic zirconium must be the purest, because it is purified as the first step and hardened under very controlled processes, with as little as possible left to chance of impurity. It is so pure that, that is how they prove it to be a fake diamond.

      Not coal.

      Coal is actually rich in hydrocarbons and may contain such impurities as siilica ard clay. Coal often has enough uranium that many coal plants release more radiation than nuclear plants.

    The 'purest' form of carbon comes from different labs. The purity depends upon the lab and how well they can purify it.

    FYI, carbon can exist in various isotopes:

    Carbon (₆C) [6 protons] has 15 known isotopes, from ⁸C to ²²C, of which ¹²C and ¹³C are stable.

    Diamond is the purest form of carbon, in which, the carbon atoms are very tightly bound to one another compared to the other forms of carbon like the graphite, fullerene, and many more.

    Each of the forms of carbon can be arbitrarily pure. There's nothing inherently pure about any form of carbon. Buckyballs, graphene, manufactured diamonds, and amorphous carbon can all be obtained with as much purity as you are willing to pay for.

    Lab-grade Graphite is pure, at 99.9999%. Also activated carbon. Diamonds, on the other hand, often have about 0.05% impurities.
