Paul Simon or Art Garfunkel?

Who was better singer/songwriter?

Both were in Simon&Garfunkel,

Simon did sing songs like Mrs Robinson and Homeward Bound,

Though Garfunkel did sing Bridge Over Troubled Water

Who had better success outside the band?

Garfunkel had solo success outside of Simon & Garfunkel? That would be news to me.

Simon was 95% of Simon and Garfunkel, and had a successful solo career after S&G ended. All Garfunkel ever did was sing the high notes of the S&G harmonies.

You cant have one without the other. It wouldnt have worked.

Simon justifiably ranks as one of the great U.S. songwriters of the post-WWII era, on a par with Dylan. He's also a pretty fair guitarist. Garfunkel is just a guy with a decent voice. His role in the duet could have been filled by any number of others. Even without him, Simon would have become world-famous.

    Well, Garfunkel had better hair.

Art had the better voice, but he wasn't much of a writer. Simon is a great songwriter. Simon had a far more successful solo career.

Graceland alone made Paul more successful than Art. Art never really had a killer album. Paul's had several.

You list Art's vocal for Bridge Over Troubled Water as "his" contribution to the duo. Paul wrote the song - in fact, Art only co-wrote one song on the Bridge Over Troubled Water album and Simon wrote the rest.

Neither of them had much solo success. Paul Simon had slightly more, but still not that good. This is why they reformed even though they always argued.
