I’m a Nigerian American born to Native Nigerian parents, why is it that Black Americans don’t know their roots/origins?

Many blacks in America have lived there for many generations. In other words, the USA is a large part of their roots, or at the very least it is the land of their mothers and fathers, and most likely their grandparents too. All humans originated in Africa if you want to go back far enough.

If someone is kidnapped and sold into slavery in another country, and there is no record of their origin, how do you suggest they find out?
