"In communication studies or media studies, mediatization is a theory that argues that the media shapes and frames the processes and discourse (conversation) of political communication as well as the society in which that communication takes place."

The above definition shows that "Mediatization" shapes how people think, so it that sense people do become the media; as with the Trump supporters attacking CNN reporters at his rallies while he yells "Fake News". Yelling "Fake News" at news he doesn't like is his 'counter Mediazation' strategy. He, "shapes and frames the processes and discourse (conversation) of political communication as well as the society in which that communication takes place" with his denial that news critical of his policy is valid. There's little difference between his Mediatization and personal propaganda as he tries to hold on to his cult of the personality as have other strongmen.
