"Studying medicine" -- That could mean any number of things.

In the U.S., someone who wants to be a doctor (M.D.) would go to school for 8 years.

4 years for a Bachelor's degree, then apply to medical school. If accepted, there would be another 4 years to becoming a doctor.

If they want to specialize, there would be additional school after that.

4 year bachelor's degree completing all prerequisite courses for admission to med school, then 4 years of med school to earn an MD degree.

    7 years, minimum.

    In which country?

Different countries have different systems; for example in the US it's a post-grad course, and in the UK it's an undergraduate degree course (although both take many years to complete)

Generally speaking, FOUR years of Pre-Med (regular university), then FOUR years of Medical school, and A Year or TWO Residency in an actual Hospital.

Of course passing a States Medical Boards for the License to practice,

AND another three Years or More, if a "Specialty" is selected.(Which may be folded into the Residency)
