How much do attitudes make a difference to the way you live?

Contrasting attitudes of Tenzing and Hillary -

Sir Edmund Hillary made one of the century's landmark feats. His famous quotation after summiting Mount Everest with Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953, was a comment to expedition mate George Lowe: "Well, George, we knocked the bastard off."

Edmund planted the flag on the peak and exclaimed, "We've conquered the Everest."

Let's see what the other guy did...

The great Himalayan mountains are considered sacred by many. The Sherpa call Mount Everest Chomolungma and respect it as the "Mother of the World". It is also called Sagarmatha (meaning 'Head Of The Sky')

On reaching the top, Tenzing Norgay bowed to the ground and said, "Mother, forgive me for placing my feet on your head "

The earth is for our exploitation and conquest.

or

The earth is our saviour and support.

Your attitude makes a world of difference, isn't it?

Hillary was in reality quite a modest man, he spent the rest of his life helping the poorest of the poor in Nepal.

You can forgive him a few moments of exuberance for such a feat, after all exuberance is one of the best emotions a human can feel.

A person can live a more loving and virtuous life by reciting daily and with care the angelic psalter of the Virgin Mary.
