I suspect he was calling all denominations fake in that they are caught up in the concept rather than the Lord Himself. I would say this is false because you can have both. The denomination is for like minded people who see the interpretation of a religion a particular way. You could think of it like this, there are many hobbies we can receive joy from, but there are two parts to most hobbies, there is the learning of the hobby and then there is the enjoyment of the hobby. Just because there may not be joy in the learning, doesn't mean there are not times when the learning is put aside to enjoy the hobby. If anything, it's the effort of learning that increases our abilities in the hobby to give us potentially more joy in the long run. Some might call this growing in the Lord as you learn more you can appreciate more. This preacher's idea is just enjoy the Lord without ever learning about the Lord. Nobody is bound to a denomination or religion, you are free to move about as you learn.
