Between Thrash Metal and Hardcore Punk Which One Was The First True Extreme Underground Rock Genre?

Hardcore Punk. The Germs and Black Flag (through their early singles) predates Thrash Metal by one year. (think The Germs GI and Black Flags Nervous Breakdown and Jealous Again.

Thrash Metal became prominant with Motorhead's Ace Of Spades, not Venom or Discharge, dumbazzes. Motorhead's Ace Of Spades was 1980. 1 year before Venom and 2 before Discharge.

Id like to add that neither Thrash Metal or Hardcore Punk are extreme. Bands such as Larm and Possessed would push the boundary of both genres in the near future.

They was born in different years and was part of very different scenes when Underground was used to have a huge separation between punks and metal fans. The Hardcore style came first into punk scene around the years 1979-1981 with bands like Discharge (UK) and Black Flag (US) practicing a sonority dirtier and less oriented to radio FM than the popular punk bands.

Few years later like between 1982-1983 the Heavy Metal scene was surprised with another wave of bands the new 'thrasher alcoholic' boys was practicing a kind of heavy metal dirtier and less commercial than the popular ones Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Ozzy, etc through bands like Exodus, Exciter (CAN) and Venom included they was very influenced by Hardcore bands.
