You need to take your eyes off religion and focus on what Jesus Christ did and said. Learn first what genuine Christianity is, and then you will spot the fakes who give Christianity a bad name. I bet the Bible is a closed book to you. If you are biblically illiterate, you will forever remain confused because you don't know what genuine Christianity is. You merely go by what you see and, if what you are seeing is fake Christianity, you are going to remain confused.
Yes, Jesus said to His followers to love one anther as He loved them (i.e. be willing to die for them), and to love one's enemies and to pray for them. He also warned not to judge others for He is the one whose role it is to be the Judge of the living and the dead on the Day of Judgment. He said that if we do not forgive those who have wronged us, neither will God the Father forgive us. When asked what is to be done to do the works God requires, Jesus answered,
"The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." He added, "Whoever comes to me I will never drive away." (John 6:28-29 & 37) We are to believe Jesus Christ and then do what He says we are to do. The New Testament gospel accounts inform us completely on that. Have you ever read any of the four gospel accounts? What do you actually know about Jesus, the Son of God, who came from Heaven to become a man, to die for our sins, taking the punishment we deserve so that God could legally pardon our sins when we repent and put faith in Jesus?
Stop looking at religion, religionists, and the failings of Christians. Look to Jesus, now lifted up and back in Heaven, and who will return again to Earth to usher in the Day of Judgment. You will be judged by Him for how you have lived and whether you have put your faith in Him or not - you will not be judged on the basis of other peoples' sins - just your own. Learn about Jesus and turn to Him alone for salvation. Start reading your Bible, please. Here are some verses to get you going.
“What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ...” Acts 16:30-31
“...whoever believes in him [Jesus] should not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16
“God saved you [past tense] by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God...
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly... God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
“Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled shall we be saved through his life.” Rom 5:1-11 NIV
"I have had one message for Jews and Greeks alike - the necessity of repenting from sin and turning to God, and of having faith in our Lord Jesus... I [must] finish the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus - the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God... Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following." " Act 20:21-30 NLT
