My hydrangea is totally dry. I bought it in a pot during easter. Is there hope for it?

I live in Connecticut. Its summer now, but the plant just did not flourish. The stems are totally dry and hard. I know its a perennial. I am wondering if there is any way that it may still be alive. Please help. Serious answers only

NO,I think it may be dead. But there are many kinds of hydrangea yours may be the ones that comes back on old wood so water it well and see if it makes new leaves If no leaves then its dead.It will not bloom again this year if its not dead.,
