Nope,just urban myth.
The arachnid most call grandaddy longlegs are not even true spiders. They are Opiliones called harvestman.
Totally harmless, don't make web or produce venom, and mouth parts can't bite skin.
The cellar spider 'daddy long leg spider' is a true spider, myth about them is wrong on both points, They can bite if they chose, but their venom is so mild, and fangs so small, you may never notice a bite. Handled lots of them, and never bitten.
A third daddy long legs is the crane fly, a totally harmless flying insect, they don't bite or sting.
This is a bit like a giant harvestman I had, named him Herman, why they call them grandaddy:Source(s): Been around spiders 60 years.
