Why? I don't know. But I've had people say the same to me; "At first I though you were stuck up, until I got to know you." Some people are advising you to smile; that is probably good advice.

Maybe you are a snob--in addition to being shy.

You probably don't smile.

Some people may perceive your shyness as you being aloof by choosing not to interact with others. From this it may be assumed you think you are better than others, hence why you do not interact. This may not be accurate, but simply a certain perspective. Remember, one perception does not negate another perception.

Try not holding your nose up so high.

Well, you could dress like a 'tard. This way no one will think that you might be a snob.

Its probably you're attitude or vibe you give off, so take a close look at that and try to be more friendly and outgoing.

Because you don't talk to anyone aside from your clique.
Of course their assumption is just as foolish
