If a debt collections agency uses a process server can they pass on that cost on top of the debt or is it on them?

The debt collection agency will charge you for everything. Including the process server, including administrative expenses, including court filing fees, lawyer fees, paper clips....
Much cheaper to pay the debt

Why would anyone in his right mind take a job and pay someone else's penalty? The process server is hired by X and bills them. X pays the process server what he is due. X adds on ALL fees and costs to "your" debt. People are not in business to lose money. The longer you fail to pay your debt, the more it will cost you. After collections, our they can bypass that step and sue you. Attorney's fees court costs, interest - it is ALL added to your debt.Source(s): Certified Paralegal, with 25+ years' experience.

They can be. Not always are.
Once you get to court, YOU LOSE. You can either pay it in full, agree to monthly payments or agree to garnishment. Only THIS time, when you fail to pay, garnishment is automatic.

Believe me EVERY cost will be passed onto you. They are not going to be out of pocket.

All costs incurred collecting a debt can be passed on to the debtor. That would include the cost of a process server, court costs, etc.
