Can I drop out of high school?

I am 16 years old and I live in California, can I drop out of high school? Am I old enough? And how do I dropout? Do I just not register for the next school year?

stay in school. I am 28 years and I dropped out and currently getting my ged now after I have kids and a husband and it's so hard. I wish I would haven't dropped out.

You have to be 18 to drop out of school in CA, unless you have your parents' permission. And it doesn't sound to me like you do. I'm sure your folks will be mighty mad at you if they learn you're thinking of doing this, in fact. I would be too, if you were my kid. In fact, it'd probably be pretty questionable whether you'd still be living at home any more.

What's your reasoning for wanting to drop out? Running from your problems ain't gonna do good. I suggest you stay in school and finish your education, dropping out will drastically decrease your chance of getting a good job or into a college without a diploma. So unless you want to flip burgers at McDonalds for a living, suck it up you got 2 years left....besides you need to be 18 in order to be able to drop out....

California students may drop out legally once they turn 18. Students who are 16 or 17 may also leave school, but only if they: have their parents' permission, and. pass the California High School Proficiency Exam (which leads to a certificate that's equivalent to a diploma).

It's not your decision to make, when you are only 16 years old.

I think you need to be at least 18 years old to drop out of school on your own. Or else, it's your parents and government officials who decide. And they can send the police after you, if you don't do as they say.
