Is it wrong to throw food away?

Question

I was staying at this guys house and bought almost $100 worth of groceries.

The next day he kicked me out because I didn't wanna have sex with him. So I had to go to a hotel. I asked him for a trash bag and put all the groceries I bought in there and threw them away. Neighbors were looking at me with a worried face.

Was I wrong in throwing perfectly fresh groceries away?

My only option was to leave them there.

It was your food, u can do whatever u want with it

they were probably just curious why you were doing that. not a common sight to see perfectly good groceries thrown out in a heap. I'd mainly be concerned about the waste of money. If the only options were tossing them or let your enemy have them I would do the same.
