Why do conservatives want to make it illegal not to worship the government?

Worship of government is a sign of fascism and holds good for any political persuasion.

I've got some bedtime reading for you, kid:

"The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements" by Eric Hoffer

It's a relatively short book, more of a classical essay, written while WWII was still fresh in the global consciousness. It should be on every high schooler's reading list. The chapter dealing with how the recently poor(er) and those who have lost skilled labor are ripe for radicalization is especially apposite.

I don't entirely agree with all of Hoffer's conclusions, nor especially with his vision of the ideal life. He was a man of his time and class, and though he often cites women authors he hasn't quite grasped that women are independent people, but that's another story. What he does with laser precision is describe how mass movements seek to drive the dissatisfied individual out of themselves into a sense of belonging to something bigger and "purer" by outward acts of collective "worship." To see the workings of a movement requires being able to name the parts. Once you can name your enemy you can work out how to protect your psyche and how to fight it.

Education kiddo. The government is a group of people with jobs to work for the USA. Those Conservatives want you to worship the country, the efforts, the people who make the USA.

Say we decide the government no longer supports the people. The people will continue to salute the flag while they attack the corrupt government.
