Here's my theory: Liberals like to identify with the poor and working classes. Since rap and hip hop appear to be the music of the blue collar crowd, liberals "like" it (whether they really do or not). Classical music is often associated with the "upper class", the "wealthy", the "educated elite" who are conservative who "don't give a damn about the working man" who is "too dumb" to be a success. Thus classical music is associated with snobs who aren't concerned with the plight of the lower class whom they exploit. Naturally (I'm being sarcastic), liberals have to hate symphonies. Not true. I'm from a working class background. My father liked only country, but my mother (who never finished high school) liked classical. I listened to classical music from an early age and developed a passion for it at the age of 15. I have no formal training, can't read music, can't play an instrument, and I'm still working class economically. But I love symphonies.
