Since in taught Voice and choral music in NY State schools for over 30 years, I will say that 99 percent of the young singers today have made their careers on looks, personality, and mediocre voices enhanced by a ton of tech. One huge exception - and I did not know her work until I saw and heard her in The Greatest Showman - is Zendaya. Very good vocal technique, no screaming or yowelling, very smooth blend from one part of her range to another. Both I and and my husband - same career and expertise - were very impressed. In the same movie we were REVOLTED by the dubbed in howling for the character of Jennie Lind - who was supposed to be the fine opera singer!! Most other pop singers today are huge phonies - and very very seldom do we hear a decent Start Spangled Banner at a sports event. We taught all our students to do it well, respectfully, AS WRITTEN. You would not decorate our flag with a BeDazzler, would you?
