Becoming independent, growing into an adult and having ambitions of your own are things to look forward to, not to fear. It may be that you suffer from anxiety, and this is causing you to judge the world outside your parent's home as not safe, based on the things you read or hear about. Of course you will gradually learn to be wise and street smart as you grow.
I think this is especially important for you to get a grip on, as you plan to work with children. Children need adults around who are balanced, not fearful, so that they can grow into confident people with strong life skills.
I am sure that as you go forward, you will learn to be more confident yourself. If you experience anxiety, it would be a good idea to get some help and support with this- it's a common condition actually so nothing to feel ashamed of. Have a look around your area for something like a support group for young adults with anxiety, or speak with your doctor who should be able to refer you for some counselling.
