Well, I understand why you put "people" in inverted commas, because some of the horrific torturing and murdering of Catholics in this 20th century seems to be utterly animalistic in barbarity. Actually, that's an insult to animals because even their treatment of other animals is not as tortuous as is happening these days.
There are many cases in India right now, and Indonesia, and Egypt and South America, where Catholics (& Coptic Christians etc) are being wickedly persecuted. Of course, so are Protestants, but it's just that they are in a minority of the totality of Christians in such parts of the world. It is certainly true that Catholics are persecuted today, being seen as Christians by those who hate Christianity and all who bear the name of Christ. But many Catholics and Protestant support international Christian charities devoted to helping persecuted people no matter what their Christian denomination, or if they are not Christians at all.
