Is one watt difference enough to blow a light bulb?

The 7W light for a nightlight we use in out kitchen went out, and the only bulb we had around the house was a 6W bulb that was the same size as the 7W. I replaced the bulb, plugged it into the socket and flipped the power switch on the light; then there was a pop and a spark and the lightbulb literally exploded and... show more The 7W light for a nightlight we use in out kitchen went out, and the only bulb we had around the house was a 6W bulb that was the same size as the 7W. I replaced the bulb, plugged it into the socket and flipped the power switch on the light; then there was a pop and a spark and the lightbulb literally exploded and the house went dark. The whole thing ended up tripping four different breakers, one of them not even on the same floor.

Does anyone know why all this happened?
