There are NO CARS in Venice, not even police. You can't drive, much less park, in central Florence without a special permit that is impossible for tourists to get. And wanting to drive in Rome is a death wish and trust me on that. And the tolls on the Autostrada will equal or exceed train fares. If you are looking to tour your way down and stay in some smaller places then it makes sense. If you want to get from point A to point B, take the train.

Just to drive between cities? Don't. Take the train instead, much easier. Not to mention faster and more comfortable.

Venice to Florence is about 3.5 hours on the A13 Autostrada and Florence to Rome is another 3 hours on the A1 Autostrada. Use Venezia, Firenze and Roma on this site to get driving directions https://www.viamichelin.com/
