Why do people believe it's their right, or duty, or privilege to claim others at ugly, to their face? It's rude and often untrue. It's a way for someone to be mean and pretend they are doing the other person a courtesy. It's all about pride -- the speaker's pride. Like, I'm better than you are, and I'm going to make sure you know it. Do you really expect the recipient of your declaration to go rushing off and make some grand effort to make him or herself more physically appealing, "sexy" to the speaker? Are we all really supposed to live up to the ridiculous beauty standards of those who make such "ugly" statements? The really ugly person in this situation is the speaker. Ugly inside. Why do people who are verbally assaulted in this way feel anxious? Because of the hostility of the speaker, and the threat of harassment and physical abuse by the person who thinks they have the right to beat them down.
