Contrary to what feminists preach, males and females are not equal, and all observed differences between males and females are not a result of discrimination. Researchers are finding out that men and women are more different than ever before thought. Different physical strengths, different hormone levels, different brain chemistry are but a few differences between males and females. One result of these very real differences is the girls tend to be more linguistic learners and boys tend to be more experiential learners and need more more physical activity than girls on average to stay focused.
This has affects in the home as you observed, but also importantly in education. Boys overall do better with experiential learning and some physical activity such as science labs, having gym, being in sports, having real gym classes, and being able to go out and play over the lunch hour. Schools however have changed to adopt the way girls learn. Boys are hard wried to sit for 8 hour straight, and yet people wonder why ADD diagnosis has sky rocketed in boys especially.
If I hadn't been able to go out and play as a kid and had been expected to sit quietly for hours on end, I'm sure I would have been ADD as well. Fortunately, I grew up in a time it was okay for boys to be boys and not have to act like girls.
