Models in Canada get paid by the job. It's not a salaried position. For the majority it's not even a full time job. Pay varies from job to job and it varies from city to city and it varies based on your experience and reputation. It also depends on how hard you work and how much work you get. If you are well known and live in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal where there are plenty of jobs then you can make a six figure income. If you live in Listowel Ontario or Canmore Alberta then you are stuck with church fund-raiser fashion shows and photos for the hair salon. There are so many variables any "average wages" is purely a wild guess.
A few general tips for Canada: Move to a place where there's more work. You don't need to go to Toronto or Montreal, but the larger the city the more work is available. Agents can help you prepare for a job and tell you what is expected. Get a professional portfolio and make sure there are no selfies. Instagram, Twitter, and facebook are nice but not necessary. There are millions of Instagram models. Get an agent. Agents takes some of your money but they also can get you more jobs that you can get for yourself. Go to lots of auditions, go-sees and call backs. And develop something unique to you that makes you stand out from the crowd. There are thousands of aspiring models and only a few jobs. You want agents to remember you so try to stand out from the crowd in a good way.
Be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up. Always be on time and professional. Try to keep complaining on the job to a minimum -unless they are asking you to do something dangerous. No one cares what you think about the clothes, your jobs is to wear them and make them look good. Understand your first jobs will not pay much, but as you go along the pay should increase. Be realistic about your chances. There are thousands of girls who want to be models but only the ones who are ambitious driven and hard working make it.
PS: when I was casting for a fashion week show it was strongly suggested I use Elite agency in Toronto. That way they would be as professional as possible and I could worry about the clothes, not the models wearing them.
