Humans are descendants of an ape, but we are not apes. Apes do not walk on two legs. of course there are people who claim that the descendants of an ape are also apes. According to that sort of logic, mammals are reptiles, since mammals evolved from a reptile, a therapsid reptile to be exact, and reptiles are amphibians, since reptiles are descendants of an amphibian. taking the sort of logic to the extreme, since all life on earth are descendants of bacteria, all living things are bacteria.
Apes, therefore are monkeys, since apes descended from a monkey. Monkeys of course evolved from a lower primate, similar to the tarsier, and tarsiers themselves evolved from a loris. Primates evolved from a tree climbing shrew. so, where does one draw the line? At the level of reptile, amphibian, fish, lower chordate, echinoderm, cnidarian, single-celled eukaryote or bacteria?
