Cholesterol is misunderstood by people because either the medical profession doesn't educate them or they themselves don't understand it. My money is on the latter.
If cholesterol affected people the way it's commonly believed then there would be no obesity problem in the world. Overweight people obviously eat more than average people and would thus consume more cholesterol. If the cholesterol myth were true, they would be dropping over dead at an alarming rate.
The fact is, you get 25% of your daily cholesterol needs from food. It doesn't matter what food you eat - 25% is 25%. The body discards the rest. This cholesterol does not go directly into the arteries as explained above - it gets stored in the liver until needed.
"If the primary ingredients were made available for its proper function, the body would never engage in making things harmful to itself." - F. Batmanghelidj, MD.
Cholesterol serves a life-saving function in the body- there is no such thing as "bad" cholesterol.
Blood is 94% water. One of its functions is to flush metabolic waste from the cells and discard it. When there's not enough water to do this efficiently, the blood thickens and turns acidic. It loses even more water during its passage through the lungs as water vapor is lost through the breathing process.
Entering the arteries, this acidic blood hits the tissues under a shearing pressure which causes minute cuts and abrasions. To prevent this damage from peeling off and becoming embolisms that go to the brain or lungs, the s0-called "bad" cholesterol covers and protects the damage like a waterproof bandage until it can be repaired.
Along comes the pharmaceutical industry with its medications that reduce the amount of cholesterol. This may seem like a good thing but it's not. The cholesterol forms to protect the damage from the acidic blood. When the medication removes it, the tissues are once again exposed to the damaging effects of the pressurized acidic blood. This actually increases the chances of disaster. Medications don't treat the initial cause - only water can fix dehydration. Medications only hide the symptoms of thirst.
Keep yourself properly hydrated and you can eat all the fish you like.
