The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or USSR. The Soviet Union. While it gives the feel of a country of United States like we have, there was no separation of what was communist and undeer the rule of the Soviet Leadership in Moscow, Russia. Just like the Free world has the Nato Alliance, the Soviets joined with other communist led/influenced nations dependent on the Soviets and it was called the Warsaw Pact. Russia was the main "State" of the USSR that led the alliance, but I am not sure you would call it a separate country from the USSR.
