What do you think of the Florida sheriff who didn't confront the school shooter?

Was he a coward or was he justified for being outgunned?

Laws in Florida may require that the arresting officer have backup before a formal arrest can be made. The real cowards are Rick Scott, the governor of Florida, and Senator Marco Rubio for a) taking money from the NRA, and b) not having the guts to stand up to the NRA and protect the American citizens, especially children.

Coward. There was no point in employing him if he wasn't going to act. If he was armed, he should have had the enough training to deal with the situation, otherwise he should be doing a different job.

I don't think anyone outside the force can judge. I'll bet it was their policy (caused by insurance) to take cover and wait for superior armed support rather than him get killed and the offender get his weapon to use as well.

In my mind, he is the perfect example of why we would be incredibly foolish to ever think that we should give up guns and let the cops handle it. The FBI screwed the pooch on this as did the deputy. The FBI also screwed the pooch on the night club shooter. So let the cops handle my safety and security. Right. NOT A CHANCE. At 4 am in my home, I am the police.

He was not the sheriff, but I think the sheriff was correct to suspend him without pay while being investigated. The officer has since resigned/ retired.

I've worked with some excellent school resource officers, but also some that were ROD's (retired on duty.) I would speculate that Officer Peterson was the later.

It is difficult to say anything very positive about a policeman who lets the children get shot one by one. He stood there with his
finger up his *** and thought that was the correct thing to do.

Definitely a coward, not a nice thing to say I know but, there isn't a nicer word that can be used. Having said that, I really can't say for sure, how I would react at that moment and in that situation.
