Why would the Chicago Cubs trade power-hitting Eloy Jimenez to the White Sox for pitcher Jose Quintana?

Because Fat Boy Lester and John Lackey sucked last year, They knew Joke Arrieta was leaving, and epstein's big free agent signing last winter, Brett Anderson, got beaten like a pinata. The Cubs needed at least one decent pitcher if they hoped to make the playoffs last year, so an unproven prospect was a small price to pay.

The Cubs have plenty of good young hitters and no decent young pitchers. They traded from strength to fill a need.
