By whiskey, I'll assume you mean bourbon. It could just as easily mean sugar cane, wheat, sorghum (yum!), corn, rye, barley (peated and unpeated, malted and unmalted). I've heard there is actually an oat whiskey out there.
Bourbon's flavors are a little more over-the-top, and Americans aren't the smartest or most subtle people on the planet. But sit me in front of a nice vodka like Zubrovka, and you can have my bourbon all to yourself for the night.
