Most people go crazy out of the box with all the baked skinless chicken breast and only egg whites, etc when they were living off soda and cake before. That's a recipe for disaster. Like an alcoholic, I don't think you should try to eat cake and get away with it but something like a PBnJ or just plain fruit can give you the sweetness without the 'drug' as it were.
The trick to eating and being healthy is to ADD MORE nutrition, not take everything away. Its not about nibbling just a few carrots, its getting the things you need. If egg whites have 2 nutrition units and 200 calories, the whole boiled egg with chili sauce has 7 nutrition units and 250 calories. One of those options is going to have you running for the cake come nightfall. And like creeping out a roommate's annoying girlfriend to get her to go away (how advertising works) starving on bland food like penance makes healthy eating a chore rather than a lifestyle. And you'll say screw the chores and eat cake.
In terms of cholesterol and fats, like a comedian said "smokes crack but won't eat pork because it's bad for ya."
