Probably, because at its fundamental core, organic evolution is a godless theory of origins. Yes, there are theistic evolutionists (who believe God used evolution to create), but here are some things to consider:
In "Evolution After Darwin," Sir Julian Huxley gloated, “Darwinism removed the whole idea of God as the creator of organisms from the sphere of rational discussion” (Evolution After Darwin: Issues in Evolution v. 3).
In his book, "The Blind Watchmaker," the renowned atheist, Dr. Richard Dawkins admitted, “Although atheism might have been logically tenable before Darwin, Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist.”
In one of his talks, atheist Dr. Will Provine said, “Evolution is the greatest engine of atheism ever invented ... Naturalistic evolution has clear consequences that Charles Darwin understood perfectly. 1) No gods worth having exist; 2) no life after death exists; 3) no ultimate foundation for ethics exists; 4) no ultimate meaning in life exists; and 5) human free will is nonexistent” (Evolution: Free will and punishment and meaning in life).
Biology professor, Jerry Coyne, put it like this: “Evolution is the greatest killer of belief that has ever happened on this planet because it showed that some of the best evidence for God, which was the design of animals and plants that so wonderfully matched their environment could be the result of this naturalistic, blind materialistic process of natural selection” (The Odd Couple).
Also, because religious people believe there is a problem when we trust and put our faith in man and man’s ever-changing ideas over the word of God. All throughout the Bible, we find passages like these (in different contexts):
-Psalm 118:8, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”
-Isaiah 2:22, “Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; for why should he be esteemed?”
-Jeremiah 17:5, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the Lord.’”
Also, there are certain things like the Cambrian explosion, abrupt appearance and stasis in the fossil record, living fossils, extreme convergent evolution, the limits to artificial selection, nanotechnology in the cell, the amazing requirements of changing from single-celled life to true multicellular life, the difficulty of evolution producing features that require multiple mutations before gaining a benefit, etc. that cause us to find Darwinian evolution unlikely.
