What can cause painful bruises with no cause of injury?

I've had two bruises show up in the past 2 weeks. The first on my thigh, and then another tonight on my inner upper arm. I don't remember doing anything to cause them. Today I woke up and could feel a slight throbbing pain in my arm. I thought maybe sleeping on my left side (weight on my arm) had cause a slight build up in a vein or something, but the sensation went away after 20 minute or so. Just now, I felt a pain in my arm. I touched it and it was very painful and I can see the area beneath my skin has darkened, but it's barely noticeable. Should I be worried? I'm only 23, follow a healthy vegan diet (although, with my stress levels I've been under-eating for the past week), and my body feels completely fine. I will admit I haven't been exercising much at all though due to severe anxiety and depression. My energy levels are great.

To be on the side you should consult a doctor to rule out anything serious.

A blood test to determine why the bleeding occurs. https://www.emedicinehealth.com/bruises/page2_em.h...

This lists bruising without injury and why.

Cause due to what you eat (don't eat). Example iron deficiency = anemia, a known cause for constant bruising.

In general unexplained bruises, can point a finger at more serious medical conditions, including:

Effects of medications or supplements — aspirin, anticoagulants (blood thinners), corticosteroids, and dietary supplements, such as fish oil, ginkgo, ginger, and garlic

    A bleeding or clotting disorder

Nutritional deficiencies of vitamins B12, C, K, or folic acid

    Inflammation of a blood vessel(s)

    Liver disease

Sepsis — a widespread presence of infection-causing organisms or their toxins in the blood or tissues

    Chronic inflammatory diseases, e.g., lupus

Certain cancers, including Hodgkin's disease, leukemia, or multiple myeloma

Bruises with unknown causes can be dangerous. We're talking about hemorrhage or cancer here. Visit your doctor ASAP
