If humans had stayed in the wild, would be be as smart as we are today?

Humans developed civilizations and stayed in the safety of their homes instead of encountering the dangerous wilderness and we gave up our muscle strength to feed our brains and we grew more intelligent. So if we didn't adopt civilizations and we constantly tried to survive, would our brains have grown? So if we didn't adopt civilizations and we constantly tried to survive, would our brains have grown? And why couldn't humans evolve to be both strong and smart? If it weren't for our intelligence, we wouldn't be able to survive in the wild on our own. And frankly, even with our intelligence we don't have much of a chance either :/
