What are some drawbacks to humans relating so much to each other though technical, two-dimensional imagery, rather than in person?

Whether through photography or electronic screen media, often the only way many people see someone is not only in just two dimensions, but also often in a limited frame that “cuts one off” at the neck, chest or waistline.

What are the repercussions of so-often seeing such artificial images of real people?
