Did cars from the 1920s run off gasoline(petrol) or diesel?

    In the 1920's, automobile engines were mostly gasoline powered, although there WERE a few steam and electric vehicles too. Diesel engines were used mostly for industrial purposes.

    Production diesel car history started in the '30s, I believe Citroen were the first.

    The first diesel passenger car was not introduced until 1936. It was the Mercedes 260D

    1920's cars ran on gasoline. Diesel engines weren't used in cars until the 1930's.
