If the Mac Steam client lets you download it, then you can play it.

But not all games have a Mac version.

If you look at the game page, you will be given a series of symbols showing you which platforms it works with.

Take this game for example: http://store.steampowered.com/app/271590/Grand_The...

If you look above the price, you will only see a single symbol showing that it's playable on Windows, but no other platforms.

So if you try to find the game in your library on the Mac Steam client, it simply won't show up.

    Look at this game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/698780/Doki_Doki...

Now you see the Windows logo and the Mac logo, so this game is playable on the mac. When I log in with my mac, I will see this game appearing in my library available for me to download, where other games that are Windows only will not appear.

Though free games like the latter will not appear in the library when not installed, but games that you purchase will show up if they have a Mac-compatible version.
