Artificial Intelligence (AI) is really pseudo-intelligence or faux-intelligence, because it's all programmed responses. There is NO INDEPENDENT THOUGHT in a program. EVERYTHING that a program does is based on a program following instructions based on conditions that have been programmed by a human being. Besides humans, no other creatures on this side of the veil can write complex programs that computers can execute ... especially programs that mimic so-called human intelligence.
All programs are eternally limited in their output, because no program can *actively* synthesize a purely unpreprogrammed response to anything. Hell, even very advanced code can be glitched by a small spike in electron flow through a circuit that can't handle the current. Radiation that interferes with a transistor's ability to hold or release electrons can bring down an entire OS, requiring a reboot.
There are no programmed entities that have independent thought or self awareness. All actions performed by a program are preprogrammed-condition based. Even with "quantum" randomness, every response is based on human-programmed decision on what should happen under every possible programmed condition. There is no true randomness in computers other than glitches that have either been gracefully or ungracefully responded to by meticulous programmers.
This DOES NOT in any way deal with the possibility of entities from outside this "realm" (← for lack of a better word) that may or may not screw around with electronic gizmos. I am not able to declare that no such beings exist, because I do NOT know. But, if they do exist, and if they can influence electronic devices that run human-made programs, that is still not programmatic independent thought and/or self-awareness! That is trans-dimensional-being thought and/or self-awareness. And those topics are beyond my ken.
