Does Bettman's rejection of the Olympics now look prescient with not Team Russia?
no Team Russia

I don't think Bettman took that into account. The league never wanted to go to South Korea but they badly want to go to Beijing because it's such an untapped market. The problem will be patching things up with the IOC.

Blame South Korea for the Kim Jong cancer running deep among one section of Korea.

Makes me wonder how much Ovi knew or SUSPECTED this was going to happen that he said he was going to play in the Olympics with or without the deal. It makes him look loyal to his nation and now he doesn't have to back it up. Let's be honest though the NHL wasn't making enough money from their players being in the Olympics in their opinion and that's what it comes down to. The NHL has to rearrange their schedule and between the additional risk of injury from their compressed schedule and the risk of injury in the Olympics it just doesn't make sense to htem.

It wasn't about any team or country. No one will be watching these Olympics, so it was a purely financial decision to not go.

The NHLPA rejected the CBA. That's more likely the reason the pros probably won't go to the Olympics.
