Traditional two turret scope; the top is for windage (the drift of the bullet left/right due to wind at range), and the side is elevation (drop of bullet at range). The average Joe will never really need them. It’s when you start stepping out at range ( think upwards of 600 yards or incredible wind speed). Adjustable zoom will most likely be a dial built into the rear scope casing around the lense.

Windage and elevation mostly. Some have parallax.
Focus also comes into play.
