PROBLEM 1a.

Odds in favor are given as the ratio of favorable outcomes to *unfavorable* outcomes.

There are 3 ways to roll a sum of 4 (1+3, 2+2, 3+1)

There are 33 other ways to roll a different sum (36 - 3 = 33)

So the odds in favor are 3:33

However that can be reduced.

Answer:

1:11

PROBLEM 1b.

There are 2 ways to draw a black ace (Ace of spades and Ace of clubs)

There are 50 other cards that aren't black aces.

So the odds in favor are 2:50

Again, that can be reduced.

Answer:

1:25
