How the southern region of the United States developed politically, economically, and socially from the time of colonization to the civil war?

How the northern region of the United States developed politically, economically, and socially from the time of colonization to the civil war?

One major point good for all three would be the role of transportation in each region's development, starting from the earliest settlers on foot, through horse and wagons, the use of river transportation, the digging of canals, and finally the building of the railroads. Particularly for the west, the railroad was critical to its development--you can write a bit about the building of the transcontinental railroad to bind the west with the east (including the north and the south).

Agriculture, and more important, cash crops that neede stable farms and stable manpower to grow and harvest, Vs. weaker soil that could not support large-scale farming, but the water power needed for industrialization. Farming society and industrial society both developed differently.
