Because one is opposition research and the other is, at least in spirit, somewhat close to treason.

In the Clinton case she paid a company to conduct opposition research on Donald Trump. That is pretty standard. Any significant campaign in the u.s. does opposition research on their opponents.

What Donald Trump jr. did was completely different. He was approached by someone who was identified as an agent of a foreign government working to advance that country's political agenda. He then attempted to get help from them in the campaign. This is illegal under us election law, and the fact that Trump would help a foreign government Advance its agenda in the US does not speak well to his patriotism

It's even less comparable than that. Trump's meeting involved no actual information or data, only a vague reference to it in the future. Nothing illegal at that point.

Clinton's treason involved real hard copy disinformation generated by, and spread to, real people. Which was subsequently acted upon by both willing, and unknowing apparatchiks.
