The Soviet army ran on Vodka.

    For the Aussies

"The most debated aspect of logistics with the Australian garrisons in Tobruk, Palestine, Malaya, New Guinea … was not the supply of guns, vehicles or ammunition. It was the guaranteeing of a minimum number of bottles of beer per man per month."

Who would have guessed the Aussies liked beer :-)

The US Department of Agriculture actually ordered that 15 percent of all beer production in the United States be set aside for the troops, which amounted to a bigger ration of beer than the average citizen received. advantage of large canning lines, and a normal original gravity of 1045,

Britain’s Royal Navy in 1944 launched the most ambitious plan for supplying soldiers with beer during World War II. Anticipating a long war in the Pacific, with impending shortages of beer for sailors on the high seas, the navy selected Adlams, brewery engineers based in Bristol, to design a “brewing boat” capable of making 250 barrels of beer per week.

There was also the famous incident by the RAF in Normandy which put kegs of beer on the bomb racks of Spitfires and given the designation Type XXX depth charge.

Yes the French drank wine and the Americans and Germans drank beer. When the Italian heavy cruiser Pola was disabled by British gunfire in a naval battle it was found dead in the water and when the British boarded her the whole crew was drunk from drinking rum. They took the crew prisoner and sank the ship.

No, of course not. They drank tea, sometimes lemonade, and on festive occasions they might have a single cup of cocoa.

Not all of the time. Sometimes they ran out of stuff to drink. Sometimes they had to visit the latrine to let out some of what they had put in.

But if YOU had to face a bunch of angry people shooting at you, wouldn't YOU want to be drunk?

They wouldn't be a soldier if they wouldn't.
